Description
Introduction Lateral Epicondylitis is a muscular condition, of a disabling nature, characterized by a pain, which can vary in intensity, on the lateral epicondyle of the humerus, sometimes with irradiation to the extensor muscles of the forearm and wrist and loss of function. Objective This article aims to verify the effects of a specific intervention plan on pain reduction and functional limitation caused by the condition in the short term and increase quality of life in the long term. Methods This exploratory case study aims to present and discuss the results of a physiotherapy intervention, with 4 weeks of treatment, based on Eccentric Exercises (EE), Scapular Waist Strengthening (EF), Deep Transverse Massage (MTP) and Stretching (A), in a user with lateral epicondylitis. Case Presentation Individual with pain complaint, in the region of the Right Lateral Epicondylitis (dominant side). Pain was slowly and gradually installed, in which the subject associates with intense physical efforts performed in the past. At the time of the initial evaluation, he also presents slight paraesthesias. When you find yourself in the peaks of pain in the lateral elbow, you also complain of pain radiated to the forearm and hand and also sometimes from shoulder pain. Pain increases when performing active wrist extension movements with elbow extension, so you have preferences for forearm flexion positions. Results The individual was submitted to reassessments at the end of all weeks of intervention, in which he began to present improvements as early as the first week. The intervention showed positive results in terms of pain outcomes (decreased irradiated pain and pain in the lateral epicondylitis by 100%) and functionality with a 74% decrease in the overall DASH score (presenting a residual final score of 9).Conclusion The intervention plan used for the condition of Lateral Epicondylitis, with eccentric exercises, stretching, deep transverse massage and exercises for the shoulder girdle, proved effective in the treatment of pain (irradiated and epicondyle) and in improving the functionality of the upper limb in general. It can be considered a success in the intervention verified by the treatment objectives achieved. Further studies should be conducted regarding the effectiveness of this intervention program under conditions of lateral epicondylitis.
