Description
Abstract Demographic data represented by diverse identities, such has WHO and Eurostat, place Portugal as an irreversibly aged country. The more years a person lives, must be accompanied by a constant preoccupation that they live in the best way, with access to services that respond to their needs and grant the elder quality of life. Objective To know the influence of active aging in the quality of life of the elderly (according to the produced knowledge). Materials and MethodsIt was performed an integrative literature review, based on the selection of 7 studies, in a period of time from 2015 to 2020. Results The elder’s quality of life, is associated to diverse determinates, in which we highlight the economic resources, the social support and the habitation. Factors like less years of studies, be dependent, living isolated, depression and economic problems, contribute to a worse quality of life. Elderly people, from the feminine gender, widows that live with their sons, with less degree of studies, living in rural areas and with bad house conditions, show lower quality of life. Younger elder and independent, with active social participation and with good financial resources show better quality of life. The Active aging determinants, that contribute to a better quality of life are: a good economy, a good social network of friends, neighbours and family and adopt healthy behaviours. It was found that lot of the Active Aging determinates are connected between them. Main Results Active aging has influence on the elder’s quality of life. It’s important to change the society pre-established concepts, towards aging, aging should be seen as natural stage, where there are new opportunities and discoveries.
