Description
Abstract : The current report is an internship description and reflexive analysis of teaching practices in two subjects: “Formação Musical” (Ear training / Theory of Music) and Choir. It took place at “Escola Artística de Música do Conservatório Nacional” (National Conservatory of Arts music school) in Lisbon, Portugal during the2019-2020 school year. This document is required to complete the master’s degree in Music Education (2nd cycle) in “Formação Musical e Música de Conjunto” (Ear training / Theory of Music and Ensemble) and follows the Internship and Supervised Teaching Practice at “Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas – Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco”. The “Supervised Teaching Practice” is the first part of this document. The role of a teacher as a reflexive practitioner is the topic discussed in chapter 1. The theoretical framework presented in chapter 2 is a short historical review of the Conservatory, and the specialized music curriculum program from early days to present time. There I focus on describing the curriculum development of “Formação Musical” and “Classes de Conjunto” (Ensemble). The following chapter describes the internship environment: school and curriculum. The fourth and fifth chapters describe the classes and teachers observed. The analysis of teaching practices observed was based on the detailed lesson descriptions. For “Formação Musical” (Ear training / Theory of Music), chapter 4, I prepared materials and taught classes online. In choir, I developed an online choir project based on Salut Printemps from Debussy. This project was inspired by the choir teacher practice observed and had the participation of the pianist Angelo Martino. The project is available at the YouTube Chanel “Recitalvoicepiano” (Anexo H). My internship took place during the pandemic- Covid-19 and because of that, my case study focuses on comparing teaching practices before and during the pandemic, describing different ways of teaching due to the limitations of certain platforms and programs. The research project is called “Case study on the impact of Covid-19 pandemic and online teaching of “Formação Musical” (ear training/ theory of music). It presents an analysis of several documents produced between February 2020 and July 2020 as well as interviews of five “Formação Musical” teachers from the institution.
