Description
Abstract : This report was written within the scope of the Supervised Teaching Practice course of the Master in Music Teaching (Musical Training and Ensemble Music variant), developed with students of the musical training class (4th grade, elementary education) and students of the ensemble music class (5th grade, elementary education) from Castro Verde Section of the Baixo Alentejo Regional Conservatory. The text is structured in two parts: 1) Supervised Teaching Practice; and 2) Teaching Musical Training in Elementary Education: a holistic and multidisciplinary implementation. The first part of the present report addresses some questions regarding the geographical, economical, social and cultural contextualization of Castro Verde municipality. The lesson plans and self-reflections are also presented in the first part of this report, as well as some information regarding the contextualization of the musical training class, the ensemble music class, and the Baixo Alentejo Regional Conservatory. A brief critical self-reflection is also presented at the end of the first part. The research questions, objectives, theoretical foundations, methodology and research outcome are presented in the second part of the present report. The following research questions and objectives were addressed: 1) how to implement a holistic and multidisciplinary music didactic within the scope of musical training classes at elementary education level? 2) what is the effectiveness and relevance of the implementation of a holistic and multidisciplinary music didactic within the scope of musical training classes at elementary education level? 3) to adapt, create and implement a diverse set of exercises and teaching procedures potentially conducive to a teaching learning experience based on a holistic and multidisciplinary environment; 4) to evaluate the effectiveness of these exercises and teaching procedures, taking into account, inter alia, the progression in learning and the motivation of the students. Although the small number of students participating in this study doesn’t allow any kind of scientific generalization of the research outcome achieved, the data obtained seems to reinforce the effectiveness of holistic procedures, especially in terms of students’ interest and motivation.
