Description
Abstract : Nowadays, there is a trend of revivalism, valorisation and protection for handicrafts. With the change of tastes and consumption profiles, the challenge of survival of the craft is to include elements of design, such as new technologies, techniques and approaches. Design contemporaneously constitutes a substantial tool in relation to the interconnection of values, customs and needs of society. The confabulation between crafts and design will serve to revitalize and preserve old techniques and also as a basis for design and crafts to flourish in order to achieve greater acceptance and bonding by the social body. For this connection to be timeless, it is necessary to consider the customs, methodologies and historical context in which they fit. The present project explores the relationship designer and craftsman and the concept of design. In a theoretical approach, concepts such as craftsmanship, design and the presentation of new chains of these two intertwined topics are analysed. The practical work is the creation of an object that contains ancestral techniques and at the same time is contemporary and functional, also makes the assessment of the reality of the artisan with interviews to various actors with the sense of perceiving the viability of techniques and knowledge. Looking for the propaganda of Portuguese culture that seems to be forgotten.
