Description
Gymnastics has a high requirement degree in postural control and both postural orientation and equilibrium. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of a 6-week exercise program on static and dynamic balance. 18 female athletes were divided into two groups with 9 athletes in each group. Static balance was assessed using the Flamingo Test and dynamic balance was assessed using the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT). The IG was subjected to a program of exercises that promoted the static and dynamic balance, based on balance exercises adapted to the gymnastic elements. This study shows that there were improvements - after six weeks of intervention - regarding the static and dynamic balance. In the Flamingo post-test, a decrease in GI values (1.89 ± 1.36) was identified when compared to the pre-test values (3.00 ± 1.94), which means that there was a reduction in the number of attempts the athletes made to achieve the goal of the static balance test. In the dynamic equilibrium there were improvements in only two variables. These two variables are measures posterior, and this increase can be justified from the exercises that the intervention group performed, since they had to move from a former position to a posterior position.
