Description
identidade cultural e visibilidade local. Seguidamente é descrita a
produtos.
ABSTRACT : The present article arises from an exploratory study that aims at the collaboraon (intersection) of the design with the handicrafts of straw basketry, focusing on the local cultural identity. The methodology adopted is mixed, non-intervenonal and intervenonal. Its purpose is to report the study and conclusions drawn, as well as to reinforce the importance of cultural preservation and local identity. The article begins by evidencing the loss of a cultural heritage with the disappearance of traditional techniques of artisanal production. Next, we tried to delimit the concepts of cultural identity and cultural sustainability. Two case studies illustrating the intersection of design and handicrafts were used, focusing on strengthening cultural identity and local visibility. This is followed by a description of practical experience based on the conclusions of the interviews carried out. At the end of the article we conclude that: the design can contribute to the cultural sustainability of straw crafts; a strategy to support craftsmanship based on local identity, may be more effective if it involves other local actors; the collaboration of the design with the craft does not have to go through the creaon of new products.
