Description
Abstract : This dissertation analyzes the didactic methods of Enrique Granados and discusses their application in the study and interpretation of the Goyescas. Besides being an important composer and pianist, Granados was also a recognized pedagogue. The didactic methods did not come to be published during his life, except for the 1905 pedal method. These texts reveal a methodical and creative teacher who distanced himself from a teaching tradition focused on repetitive exercises and training of the fingers. His approach of other body movements, as well as his pedal emphasis, considered at the time pioneer in Spain, bring him closer to pedagogues like Deppe, Matthay and Leschetizsky. Granados's methods do not provide complete and finished solutions, but rather indicate practical ways of studying and discussing technical and interpretative principles in a light and accessible manner. The ideas of the pedagogue can be useful in the study and interpretation of the Goyescas, although they are far from providing answers to all the technical and interpretative issues of such a complex work. The methods are also a stimulus to creativity, which can be an important ally in the interpretation of a work with extramusical references such as the Goyescas.
