Description
"design is about solving problems" surgindo sobretudo com a
meados do séc. XIX.
ABSTRACT: Although the concept of functionalism is in the design practice origins and in the emblematic relationship form / function or the motto "design is about solving problems" emerging especially with the mechanization of production and the industry for the mass product, if we go back in time we may find more interesting questions to rethink, and values or projective positions that may be now closer to our contribuon to the world we live in - than those who remained afloat within the passage of time. Because our relaonship with nature, truth, usefulness, the beautiful and the sublime in the construction of artefacts are still possible parameters of reflection on the material culture we produce today, and can lead us in a more concerted way in the search for new and more harmonious and coherent project solutions. The concept of functional objects is addressed here as a pre-determination in the genesis of industrial objects, by the Modern society that proposes a lifestyle (Modern Style) shaping features of everyday habits (Functional Style), today seen as constricting and impositive in people’s life. Being now clear that globalization, and the standardization of needs for the widespread of consumption is a consequence of Modernism, and are also in accordance with the deepest fears of Ruskin already by XIX mid-century. Considering that one of the forms of sustainability is to extend the lifetime of objects, and therefore not let things fall into disuse preventing its replacement, it is proposed to study the possibility of its extended use in time through the possibility of it being constantly updatable.
