Description
Abstract : The present report describes the work developed through an internship, as well as an investigation around the initiation of violin learning in different ages. The variety of ages of students who begin the initiation level and their characteristics in terms of musical development, motivation, personality and musical identity were the main starting point to this study. The project was developed during my violin classes in the educational institutions Amare (Associação Musical de Artes e Espetáculo), the academy O Mestre and the music school Arpeggio, where it was possible to carry out this investigation with three groups of students with different ages over the course of the school year 2015/2016. The main goal was to describe these groups of students in what concerns their relationship with music, with the pursuit of defining strategies and methodologies that can better suit each group. Consequently, it has become crucial a theoretical research related to the development of the human being as well as to musical development. The bibliographic research was also driven towards aspects associated with musical identity, and learning processes. All data was collected throughout the school year through regular observation of students’ performances and semi structured interviews. The results point to differences among the groups, reinforcing the theoretical research and contributing to adapt methods and strategies. It is important to emphasise the role of the teacher in the teaching-learning process, who must be multifaceted in the various areas, updating and reviewing practices according to the needs and realities found, in order to make possible a rigorous educational environment as well as an effective learning with a high degree of professionalism.
