Os objetivos deste estudo de caso, realizado no ano letivo 2012-13, numa escola pública portuguesa sã o : compreender as representações dos alunos duma turma do 3.º ano do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico (n=26 alunos), sobre o uso da biblioteca escolar e como convertem a leitura de livros na melhoria da sua aprendizagem; analisar as atividades realizadas pelos alunos, partindo de obras literárias de modo a promover- lhes competências básicas de leitura. A área curricular da língua e comunicação é fundamental naquele nível de ensino para desenvolver as relações de vínculo e interesse dos alunos com a leitura. É uma investigação inserida no paradigma interpretativo tendo aplicado na prática um programa de atividades pedagógicas de leitura de livros (metodologia investigação-ação). Utilizámos a observação (natural, participante) na análise aos interesses de leitura, as produções orais/escritas dos alunos, entrevista à professora, questionários aos alunos, triangulação de dados, registos visuais e notas de campo. Concluímos que a leitura é uma das chaves para o sucesso escolar dos alunos, sendo uma ferramenta essencial para criar hábitos e desenvolver competências básicas de literacia, quer no domínio das palavras, dicção, vocabulário e oralidade, bem como do conhecimento subjacente à aprendizagem da linguagem escrita. As atividades de leitura e o uso da biblioteca foram muito valorizadas pelos alunos, criando-lhes 'gosto' por uma literacia informal.
Abstract - The objectives of this case study, conducted in the 2012-13 school year, Portuguese public school are: understanding students ' representations of a class of the 3rd year of the rst Cycle of basic education (n=26 students), about using the school library and how to convert the reading of books in improving their learning; analyze the a activities carried out by the students, from literary works in order to promote them basic skills in reading. The curricular area of language and communication is crucial in that level of education to develop and link relations interests of students with reading. It is an investigation into the interpretative paradigm and applied in practice a program of educational activities of reading books (Research-action methodology). We used the observation (natural, participant) in the analysis of interests reading, oral/written productions of the students, teacher interview, questionnaires to students, triangulation of data, visual recordings and eld notes. We conclude that reading is one of the keys to school success of students, being an essential tool to create habits and develop basic skills of literacy, both in the eld of words, diction, vocabulary, and oral language as well as the underlying knowledge to learning of written language. Reading activities and the use of the library are much valued by students, creating them ' like ' for an informal literacy.
