PROBLEMÁTICA: A comunicação e o apoio à família são considerados pilares fundamentais para a prestação de Cuidados Paliativos de excelência. Uma das ferramentas apontada como facilitadora da comunicação e apoio à família são as Conferências Familiares. Contudo, existe pouca evidência empírica que suporte quais as vantagens e benefícios da realização de Conferências Familiares em Cuidados Paliativos. OBJECTIVOS: Demonstrar a importância do apoio da equipa de saúde à família de doentes com doença prolongada, incurável e progressiva; Identificar os objectivos das Conferências Familiares em Cuidados Paliativos; Reconhecer as vantagens e os benefícios das Conferências Familiares em Cuidados Paliativos.
DESENHO: Revisão Sistemática da Literatura.
METODOLOGIA: Foram incluídos seis estudos primários, publicados entre 2009 e 2013, pesquisados em bases de dados de referência e com acesso ao texto integral.
RESULTADOS: Este estudo demonstra a importância do apoio à família pela equipa de saúde. Clarifica os objectivos da realização de Conferências Familiares em Cuidados Paliativos e revela vantagens e benefícios da sua concretização para os utentes, familiares e profissionais de saúde.
CONCLUSÃO: A família inclui-se no cuidado integral ao doente em Cuidados Paliativos. As Conferências Familiares são úteis. Focam o cuidado no doente e orientado para a família, possuindo um impacto multidimensional, reduzindo o sofrimento e promovendo a qualidade de vida do binómio utente-família.
ABSTRACT: PROBLEM: Communication and family support are considered essential cornerstones in good Palliative Care. One of the tools used to ease communication and improve family support is the family meeting. However, empirical evidence that supports the advantages and benefits of the realization of family meetings in Palliative Care is scarce. OBJECTIVES: To show the importance in having the health care team support the family of patients with prolonged, incurable and progressive disease; to identify the objectives of family meetings in Palliative Care; to recognize the advantages and benefits of family meetings in Palliative Care. DESIGN: Systematic review of literature. METHODOLOGY: Six primary research studies where included, published between 2009 and 2013, searched in reference databases with integral text access. RESULTS: This study shows the importance in having the health care team support the family. It clarifies the objectives of the realization of family meetings in Palliative care and reveals advantages and benefits of its execution, for the patients, family and health care professionals. CONCLUSION: The family is part of the integral care of the Palliative Care patient. The family meetings are useful. They focus on patient-centered, family-oriented care, having a multidimensional impact, minimizing the suffering and promoting the quality of life of the patient-family duality.
