Description
Abstract Fire risk assessment in the historic centers has been a difficult problematic to solve over several years. The resolution of such problems will be much easier as better is our knowledge of reality. This work classify the fire risk of a set of buildings that represent generically the existing buildings in the historic center of Castelo Branco, based on their occupation, volumetric and utilization. The buildings in study, as in most ancient urban centers, has small height (less than 4 floors), with a mixed construction of stone and wood. Among of many existing fire risk analysis methods, this study used the Gretener method to calculate the risk of fire in the area of the historic center of the Castelo Branco town, to the Peleteiros Street. The results showed that traditional construction buildings with a maximum of 2 floors and current uses, such as housing and commercial present a fire risk within acceptable values. Same results for buildings with concrete buildings. The Gretener method allowed an expeditious fire risk assessment, however, to achieve an acceptable risk value was necessary to implement active measures in some buildings, such as the installation of an automatic fire detection system and the staff training. The results showed that traditional construction buildings with a maximum of 2 floors and current uses, such as housing and commerce present a fire risk within acceptable values. You get the same results for buildings with concrete buildings. The Gretener method allowed an expeditious assessment of the risk of fire, however, to obtain an acceptable risk value were necessary to implement active measures in some buildings, such as the installation of an automatic fire detection system and the staff training.
