Description
ABSTRACT: In the scope of qualitative methods, the visual data have gained prominence, namely the photo-elicitation interview, where photographs are used to evoke comments, memories and dialogue. Although widely applied in the areas of Ethnography and Anthropology, it is still limited its use in the field of Family Psychology. The main aim of the present work is to explore how the photo-elicitation interviews can contribute to know the perceptions of parents of persons with intellectual disabilities (ID) about their Family Quality of Life (FQoL). In families of persons with ID, FQoL can be defined as a subjective perception of family well-being to which all its members contribute and in which individual and family needs interact. Through the photo-elicitation interviews it was possible to access data about the persons present in the photographs, the moments in which they were taken and the feelings present and evoked. In conclusion, it is a very rich and promising data collection method, since it allows exploring the perceptions of the participants about the FQoL in an in-depth way.
